(EABEBE, capo 2)
Written beside Pelican Lake in Detroit Lakes, MN on July 3, 2003. Finished on September 27 of that same year.

An ode to my seemingly schizophrenic nature as a Christian. The fact that I can act one way around a total stranger and then be an absolute cretin around someone I dearly love is a complete and baffling mystery to me. We are indeed a metropolis of opposites.

Lyrics

Metropolis
(Eric Peters)

here we are in a room
with words we chose far too soon
here we are with nothing to say
and it feels just like any other day
outside my fickle skin
try to pick up my world from the hole I’m in
I’m a saint, I am a monster
I’m out to claim what I’ve already plundered

could you say there’s a better way?

if it’s yes, then let it be so
while the answer of love is sometimes no
we forget and we tell lies
while we shy away from the other’s eyes
we are a metropolis of exact opposites

come alive, you touch my soul
you’ve always been the light that leads me home
step inside, meet me where
the place that love consumes our cares

could you say there’s a better way?

if it’s yes, then let it be so
while the answer of love is sometimes no
we forget and retell lies
while we shy away from the other’s eyes

red lights, yellow, gridlock green with no place to go
deep inside we both know we’ve got our own worlds to show
