Originally titled, “Content," I wrote this song on 11/12/97.

A song about patiently waiting. “My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning.” I really liked that phrase from Psalm 130. My original chorus alluded to something about camels, needles and eyes, but I rewrote it and opted for the simpler and more concise chorus which you now hear on the album.

Lyrics

I went through the joy of hearing the call
I remember the pain of learning to fall
I search the trunks of these cedars for joy
I rummage through manhood only to find I’m a boy

Your life, your love, your limbs, your pain
Why did you give so much so that I might gain
A crown of thorns, a throne for a king
A stumbling block for such a simple thing

I wait and wait and wait and wait
Just like the watchmen do
I wait and wait and wait
It seems that’s all that I should do

I clamber up the mountain and groan out the steep
I have to search to find you when I’m staring at me
See that the winter is the dying of pride
Then the greening that follows is of love long, deep, and wide

I wait and wait and wait and wait
Just like the watchmen do
I wait and wait and wait
It seems that’s all that I can do

I wait for you to lead me to
the room where I must wait
